DISCUSSION ON VARIOUS MATTERS. INVERCARGILL, January 23. The annual meeting of members of tine National Dairying Association was held at Bluff to-day, to seo Messrs Singleton and Thornton. Government graders, grade 2194 cases of cheese, and hear their comments thereon. In the evening they met in town. Mr Ivinsella, Government Dairy Commissioner, wrote, apologising for his absence through illhealtli, but hoped later to come South and discuss the question of cool-curing with factory managers. The question of centralising shipments was considered. Mr Thornton said it paid to rail butter to Lyttelton. Mr BoAvie, Timaru, suggested that port, but Mr Thornton opposed. A motion to again approach the Raihvav Department, with a view to a reduction in freight charges, was carried. The matter of fire insurance on factories came up, and a motion to approach the Government Fire Department for a reduction in the high rates paid to companies Avas tabled. The secretary stated that one company had favoured factories in past, but Avhen other companies reduced their rates to the same level, the directors transferred their insurances to these, and afterwards the rates Avere raised. The factories, therefore, had themseh-es to blame. The motion Avas rejected in fa\ r our of an amendment to give companies, as aa'oll as the GoA rernment Department, an opportunity to quote loAver rates. It Avas resolved to recommend the conference in June to register the association under the Unclassified Societies Act. A resolution Avas also passed, that all material for factories within the association bo indented through the association. Mr Henderson (Henderson and Batgor) suggested the creation of exchanges in different centres, Avhore buyers could do business Avithout A'isiting individual factories. The chairman said the matter was most important, and Avould be noticed at the conference.
