Dalgety and Co., Limited, haA-e received the folloAving cable messages from their London office, dated the l 12th inst. :—-Frozen meat market dull. We quote—New Zealand ox hinds, 1801 b to 2201 b, fair average quality S' 2 d to 3| per lb ; ox fores, 3d to 3|d per lb; Ncav Zealand mutton, Canterbury crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 551 b to 651 b, fair average quality, 4|d to 4§d per lb; and foi* North Island crossbred wethers and maiden eAves, to 4fd per lb. Since our last telegram, Danish butter is lower by 3s 4d cwt; market quieter. Merino sheepskins are higher by Id per lb. Fine crossbred sheepskins in general are- higher by Ids per lb. Coatee crossbred sheepskins are higher by id per lb. Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated January 13th, 1905 . —“Hides. —'Market dull, but prices unchanged. Leather and basils. Market firm, Avithout change in prices.” Abraham and Williams, Limited, report on Thursday’s stock sale at Palmerston : —There was a good yarding of both sheep and cattle, and bidding was keen. Sheep were in great . demand, and realised the following prices: —Fat and forward wethers 16s .9d, store wethers 14s lid, fat eAves 14s 9d, mixed hoggets 14s id, breeding ewes 13s Bd, lambs 9s 7d and 9s 8d; forward bullocks £6 3s, three-year steers £4 11s, twovear steers £3 ss, eighteen-month shorthorn cattle £2 9s to £3, yearlings 335, springing heifers £6, £3 Is, and £2 16s, weaners 16s to 20s. Dalgety and Co., Limited, through their Master-ton branch, held a sale of Tablelands surplus stock, on account of the executors of the late John Tully. The following prices for sheep were realised: —2500 two-tooth wethers at 15s Bd, 500 four-tooth ewes at 16s 2d, 1000 full-mouth ewes at 16s od. These constitute record prices, at least for this season.

PAX/MERSTOiN, January 14. Harry Palmer and Oompany report: .There was a fair yarding of all lines to-day, and the prices generally denote a healthy tone. There is good demand for all lines of weaner pigs, slips and store*. Prices for poultry, have not yet

recovered after cue somewhat abnormal rush at Christmas, and the quality coming forward is nob really first-class. The prices quoted do not represent tlie real state of the market, most of the entries being half-grown and of poor condition. We quote:—Good weanors 10s to 12s 6d, slips 13s to 16s, stores 19s 6d to 21s, porkers 235, 255, 27s 6d; ducks, 3s 6d to 4s 6d (good), half-grown 2s 6d to 3s ; chicks and half-grown cockrells, Is to 2s; good young hens, 2s 6d to 3s 6d inferior sorts to 2s to 2s 6d; prime cockrells, 3s 6d to 4s; new potatoes, 8s to 10s per cwt; old potatoes, hard to quit, 2s 6d to 3s per sack; plums, 3ld per lb ; apples, 2s 6cl to 4s 6d ; oranges, 15s; chaff £3 to £4; wheat, -ABs; barley, 10s; oats, 7s 6d ; bran, 8s 6d ; bacon, 6d to 7d; hams, 7d to Bd. DUNEDIN WOOL SALES. DUNEDIN, January 13. At the second Dunedin wool sale, held to-day, the total bales catalogued were 14,015. Competition was very keen for all classes up to full market values, and prices showed a slight advance for bright crossbred and fine halfbred. whilst for merino and low-class crossbred prices Avere about on a par with the last sales’ prices. In all cases the prices obtained AA r ere more than equal to the London equivalent value. LONDON MARKET REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce lias received the folloAving cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, the 13th instant: — Stocks of New Zealand mutton on hand are light. *3ale is dull for all descriptions of mutton. Average price today for Canterbury mutton is 4fd per lb; for other brands of North Island mutton, 4fd. A small shipment of ' New Zealand lamb realised 6ld per.lb. The beef market is very dull; average price to-day for hindquarters New Zealand beef is from 3d to 3Vd per lb. The hatter market is firm, average price choicest New Zealand butter is 100 s per CAvt. The cheese market is steady, average price finest NeAV Zealand cheese is o2s per cwt. . The hemp market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker. There is scarcely any demand for cocksfoot seed, the average price for bright clean Ncav Zealand cocksfoot seed, AA'eighing 171 b per bushel, on spot to-day, is 50s per civt, quotation nominal. The next series of avool sales ivill commence on the 17th instant, the total quantity to be offered will not he less than 145,000 bales, Avhich will include 29,000 bales from New Zealand. There is every indication of an advance in all grades of crossbred wool. onions antTpotatoes. (Received January 16, 10.28 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 16. Potatoes (Avhioli were quoted the other day at £lO per ton) have eased down to £8 15s. Onions are still bringing £l3 per ton. HOMEBUSH SALES. SYDNEY, January 16. At the Homebush sales to-day values were unchanged. Crossbreds were scarce. Best Avethors made los to 17s 3d. There were no ewes offering. Best bullocks fetched £9 5s to £9 14s, good £B, best coavs £7 ss, good £6. Best beef realised 21s 6d to 22s per 1001 b. , AMERICAN BUYERS AT DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, January 16. At the recent avool sales it Avas reported that American buyers had been operating largely. An investigation shoAvs that Americans secured 10 per cent, of the catalogue, and Bradford and Continental buyers 75 per cent. COMMERCIAL CABLES. LONDON, January 15. Hemp is firm and prices are unchanged. The rabbit market is dull, and prices unaltered. At the periodical sales of hides there were small offerings; prices are at par to £d decline.
