A start has been made to lay a telephonic communication between Ormondville and Whetukura, a much-needed improvement. The bicycle road race from Dannevirke to Matahewi and back (19 miles) was won by M. Guilliard (4£min). R. Wallace (7min) ran second, J. Stratford third, and O. Neilsen (30sec) fourth. Waipukurau defeated Ormondville at cricket by eight runs. H. Fayen (Ormondville) performed the hat trick. East year's Police Court statistics show that 161 persons were arrested for drunkenness, 17 for vagrancy, 26 for using obscene language, 81 for theft, 24 for assault, 1 for horse-stealing, 3 for breaking and entering, 4 for. wilful damage to property. "Lender the Licensing Act 26 prohibition orders were granted, 15 prohibited persons were dealt with for being on licensed premises, 6 publicans were prosecuted for trading after hours, and 12 for serving prohibited persons. Bottj secretary, Bro. Wilson. Mrs J. Hall, of Matamau, has now completely recovered from her recent illness.
Mrs TJurmester was presented by her pupils of the art school with a handsome silver dish previous to her departure from town.
