AT A CHILDREN'S PARTY.

Mr Walter Slaughter, the composer, tells the following story of a curious mishap: —I once, he says, gave, a children’s party at my house and engaged a real Punch and Judy fihmv to amuse the little ones. In the middle of the performance the man inside suddenly stopped, and the show came to a curious pause. The artist inside was invited to 1 proceed, but no response being received, somebody looked down the opening in front to find out what had happened. To their astonishment they discovered the showman huddled np and black in the face. He had half swallowed his squeaker! We had to drag him through the opening and turn him upside down to get it out, a performance the children shrieked with laughter at, thinking it the beist part of the show —comedy and tragedy*
