A private telegram announces ihc death on the 3rd of Mr Robert Davidson death, on the 3rd of Mr Robert Davidson, mongers, etc., Kumara. Mr Robert was the last of six brothers whoso birthplace was Raven glass, Cumberland, England. Four of the brothers came to> the colonies in the sixties, settling at Kumara on the discovery of that goldfield, in 1876. Mr Matthew Davidson was the first of the four to pass away; this was about eight years ago, at tli© home of Mr Edward Wilson (an old friend of the Davidsons from boyhood), of the Post Office Hotel, Wellington. Messrs William and John Davidson and their wives have since succumbed. The Messrs Davidson wore all noted for tlioir liberality te the poor and towards benevolent and charitable institutions. They were very intimate friends and neighbours of the Right Hon R. J. Seddon and family. Mr J. P. Carotin, of Oarolin and Co., Ltd., Melbourne and Bendigo, is at present on a business visit to Wellington. Mr Carol in has been a member of tin- Bend-go City Council for about twon I v years, and lias al so- filled th© volition of Mayor of the city.
