An inquest was held on Sunday afternoon at tho Empire Hotel, Petono, by Mr Ashcroft, Coroner, on the death of Lizzie North, wife of Henry North, carpenter. Deceased died suddenly at her residence in Elizabeth street on Saturday afternoon. Dr Perry deposed that a post-mortem examination of the body shewed that death had resulted from asphyxiation. There was no evidence to show what had caused tho asphyxiation. The jury returned a verdict of death from asphyxiation, but that there was no evidence to show how it was caused. An instance of early preparation for a marriage was told at the Donald-Mills wedding on Saturday. When Mr V. E. Donald was born, twenty-seven or twenty-eight years ago, his. father, Major Donald, buried a bottle of wine and planted a tree over it, with tne intention of removing it on the occasion of the boy’s marriage. Considerable difficulty was experienced in removing the tree last week, so firmly liad its roots embedded themselves; however, tho bottle was sound when taken from its hiding place, and the will© was used to drink the bride and bridegroom’s health on Saturday. Afterwards the bottle was refilled, and will be buried again until the next marriage in tlie family. At the annual meeting of tho Hebrew Congregation held on Sunday, Mr Joseph Mandel was elected president for the ensuing year, Mr Falk Cohen treasurer. and Mr L. M. Hyams, secretary.
