GREYMOUTH

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

In spite of the bad weather, Trinity Hall was very full last Wednesday, on the occasion of the Aquatic Club’s concert. The programme, which was varied, was a little out of the common. The first item, of which the less said the better, was a selection from “Much Ado About Nothing,” by the Y.M.B.C. Dramatic Club. The parts were well known, but it is ridiculous for second-rate amateurs to put a Shakesperian play, minus the required scenery and effects—before tbe public. This was followed by a song, “Island of Dreams,” by Mr W. Kerr, who was in good voice. Next came a comic recitation by Mr E. Guinness. The next item was a song, “To the Front,” by Mr Kevin Dillon, and in response to the well-merited applause sang “Bid me to Love.” Mr Barltrop then gave a recitation. Tiffs part of the programme was brought "to a close by Miss Cecil Yarrall, who sang "Beloved, It Is Morn,” and for an encore, “Sing Me To Sleep.” The next part of the programme consisted of a “nigger show’ by the Bailey-Washington Ohio Minstrels. No better minstrels have been in Greymouth for some considerable time, and the "gags,” puns, etc., especially the local ones, were particularly crisp and fresh. By special request, this part of the programme is to be repeated at the hospital very soon. A team picked from the Mawhera Hockey Club journey to Hokitika last Wednesday to play a match with the Kia Ora Club. It resulted in a wiu for the Kia Oras. The visitors were afterwards entertained at afternoon tea by the Hokitika ladies, and in the evening a musical evening by Mr Mabin. The following afternoon the 11awheras played against the Victoria Club, but were again defeated. Evidently our girl 3 will want a lot more practices before they will be able to compete favourably with outsiders.

The weather for the past fortnight has been dreadful ,and no boats have been able to work tbe bar for several days.
