NORMANBY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The last monthly meeting of the Town Board wes held on Monday evening, the 22nd inst., when there were present Commissioners Rowe (chairman), J. W. Jackson and H. McKoy. It was resolved that the Board meet the Hawera County Council to arrive at a final settlement of the dispute between the two bodies re maintenance of county roads through the township. A new rate for 1904-1905 was struck at in the £ on the unimproved value. The election of a new Board takes place in Septem ber, and it is to be hoped that when the new members take office more attention wil ■ be paid to the maintenance of the recrea tion ground than has been paid in the past.. The Presbyterian tea and concert was unfortunate in having to be postponed from Wednesday nigbt owing to the in clement weather. However, it was held on Thursday and passeiToff very successfully. On Friday morning at 2.30 the most Bevere thunderstorm and the most vivid lightning kjnown in this district for some years was experienced. The storm did not last more than half an hour but it was exceptionally severe. A close holiday was observed here on Wednesday on the occasion of the Tara naki v. England football match. Scarcely a dozen residents were left in the township, and great satisfaction was felt at the atanu Taranaki made.

The local orioket club has held its annual meeting. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr 0. E. Major, M.H.R.; president, Mr F. MoGuire; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Best, G. H. Gibson, G. Cookerton, and T. Rowan; captain, Mr H. McKoy; vicecaptain, Mr R. P. Clarkson; secretary, Mr C. Paine; treasurer, Mr E. J. Shrimpton: committee, Messrs Bate, McNichol. and Trevethick; delegates to Cricket Associa. tion, Messrs H. McKoy and Clarkson. It was decided to join the Bouth Taranaki Association . Mr G. Cookerton donated three guineas, and Mr Trevethick one guinea to the fundß. It was resolved that the work of top-dressing the ground he proceeded with at once.
