Abraham and Williams, Limited, report that at their Johnsonville sale on the 23rd there was a small entry of bullocks of prime quality, including some heavy weights. Bidding was brisk, and the market increased towards the end of the sale, beef making up to 235, heavy 21s. Prime heavy "bullocks £lO 5s to £ll ss, others £8 12s 6d to £9 2s fid; heifers £6 12s fid. There was a heavy yarding of sheep, mostly prime quality. Prices were not so high as last week. Prime wethers 25s lOd, others 23s to 255, light 21s; ewes 19s lid to 20s 3d,.ligM 18s 3d. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Wellington, have received the following, cablegram from their London office, dated 22nd insti. — Wheat—Quotation for cargo per sailor near at hand is 32s fid per quarter and 34s 3d per quarter for shipment per sailer, August-September. Butter —'Prices are firm, but there is slightly less demand owing to the recent advance in Danish. Siberian supplies show signs of decreasing owing to drought on the Continent causing a diversion to Germany. DUNEDIN GRAIN MARKET. DUNEDIN, August 24. Wheat. —The amount of business passing is small. Medium quality milling is commanding considerable inquiry, and is now saleable at prices much in advance of late rates. Fowl wheat is scarce, and finds ready purchasers. Prime milling, northern 3s 4d to 3s Bd, medium 3s to 3s 3d, whole fowl wheat 2s 8d to 2s lid, broken and damaged 2s 3d to 2s 6d, sacks extra. Oats. —Inquiry has eased a lot, and, although shippers and others are open to purchase, they will not give within one penny of late rates. Prime milling and A grade Gortons Is 7d to . Is 9d, good to best feed Is 5d to Is 6£d, inferior and medium Is 2d to Is 4d, sacks extra. SOUTHERN STOCK SALES. DUNEDIN, August 24. At the Burnside market to-day, 161 head of fat cattle were yarded. The entry consisted mainly of medium to goort bullocks. The demand was lull, and there was a drop of 16s per bead, Lest bullocks £9 to £lO 10s, extra prime £ll 10s, medium £8 5s to £9 ss, light £7 to £8; best heifers £7 15s to £8 ss, extra prime £9 10s, medium £6 las to &s » light £5 10s to £6 10s. *Fat sheep—lß92 penned, chiefly medium to good wethers, with a few pens of prime. Biddine was spirited at .the

beginning and prices were Is fid above last week’s rates, but later on the prices dropped, and the sale ended with values about the same as last week. Four pens of merino wethers brought 15s 9d to 18s 9d, best wethers 24s to 26s fid, medium 22s 6d to 23s 6d, light 20s 3d to 21s fid; best ewes 22s 9d to 24s 3d, medium 20s fid to 21s fid. Lambs.—loo penned and sold readily at from 16s 3d to 17s. Pigs.—ls 6 yarded, mostly suckers and slips. The few porkers and baconers penned sold well. Suckers 13s fid to 16s fid, slips 17s to 21s, stores 22s to 255, porkers 35s to 41s, light baconers 42s to 455, lioavy baconers 48s to 535, choppers to 61s. CHRISTCHURCH, August 24. At the Addington market to-day, 177 fat cattle were yarded. The sale opened at the previous week’s rates, but prices fell off towards tho close, lower values being accepted. Best steers nade £9 10s to £l2, others £6 15s to £9; heifers £5 17s fid to £S 2s 6d, and a few at £9 to £9 12s Gd; cows £5 2s fid to £8 10s. Fat sheep.—A large entry of good quality. Prices all round were fid ho Is below tho previous week s. YYethers, prime 22s fid to 27s 3d; medium, 18s lid to 225; ewes, prime 21s to 23s fid, medium to 20s fid, others 15s fid to 18s; merino wethers 20s to 25s sd, wethera 14s lid to 19s Bd. Lambs. —A small entry oi tegs sold well. Extra 21s to 265, good 18s lOd to 20a 3d, others 15s Sd to 18s 7d. Pigs.—Fats were in short supply. Porkers were dull of sale, but there was an improved demand for stores. Baconers made 42s to 51s fid (equal to 4d‘ per lb), porkers 25s to 42s (equal to 41s 2d), largo stores 25s to 30s, medium 18s to 245, wouners 9s to _16 5 - OTAGO PRODUCE MARKET. DUNEDIN, August 25. Oats. —The market has been quiofc during tho past week. There has been some inquiry for A and B grade Gartens, but for all classes of oats shippers unless having orders to fill are not disposed to operate except at a reduction on last week’s values. Quotations: Prime milling, Is 7d to Is 9d; good to best feed, Is sid to Is Gkl; inferior and medium, l.s 2d to Is 4d per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat.—The market is firm. Prime quality is in request, but nob much is offering, and in most cases owners’ reserves are considerably higher than buyers’ limits. Medium quality is readily placed, and fowl wheat, of which there is very little about, has a ready sale cither locally or for coastal shipment. Quotations: Prime to 3s 8d; medium milling, 3s to 3s 3d; whole fowl wheat, 2s 9d to 2s lid ; broken and damaged, 2s to 2s Gd per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes. —Heavy supplies continue to come forward, and prime Derwents for table use are slow of sale' at quotations. The demand for seed lines is limited. Quotations: Prime Dorv.cuts, £1 15a-to £2-; medium Derwents, £1 10s to £1 12s Gd; seed sorts, £2 5s to £3 per ton. Chaff. —The market is better supplied, and last week’s rates are not now obtainable. Prime oaten sheaf has still a good sale, but medium and light chaff ia neglected and hard to quit at quotations. We quote: Prirno oaten sheaf, £2 17s 6d to £3 2s 6d; extra, £3 ss; medium, £2 7s Gd to £2,lbs; inferior and light, £2 to £2 5s per ton (bags extra). Turnips.—We quote best swedes at 13a per ton, loose, ex truck. Straw. —Wo quote oaten to 32s Gd, and wheaten to 30s per ton, pressed. _ £ CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, August 25.
