A SMART PARROT

At a sale at Kew, near Melbourne, a.ll African giey parrot was recently sold for £42. Tha bird—a marvellous talker, repeating nursery rhymes, Sliakespeii.au quotations, singing “'Where are the Boys of the Oid Brigade ?” and two other songs, and expressing himself on all manner of subjects with the confidence and sangfroid of a politician—has, according to “Feathered Life," quite a reputation amongst talking-parrot fanciers, and wu» eagerly competed for. 'Tolly'-' objected to the crowd at the sale, and. like a spoilt child, would not ‘'show off” as desired. K'uffling his or her feathers, and with a, forbidding look, the parrot repeatedly advised the auctioneer to “shut up” and to “go home sober.”
