The decision of the Sawmillers’ Association to shut down one day a week has been anticipated here for some time past (says the “Hawke’s Bay Herald.”) Owing to the exceptionally fine weather experienced of late, and a slight falling off in the demand, the yards have become full. There is not quite so much demand for building timber as formerly,” as even Dannevii-ke is falling into line with the larger centres in requiring new buildings in the business portion of the town to be built -in brick. The export trade, _ too, has for some time been very unsatisfactory, and it is highly probable that very shortly the mills will be run only four days a week. It is hoped this will not be so, but one of the largest mill-owners in the association states that unless the demand improved, the further reduction in working hours would have to come.
