WOOL SALES.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company,-Limited, have received the following cable from the r London house, dated. Saturday :—Wool —Sales progress firmly. -Snce opening of sales prices are higher by $d per lb for greasy merino super and H to I’d per lb for medium to good scoured merino. There is a less active demand for faulty character, and the market is weaker.

Messrs- Murray, 80-berte an-d Go. -have received the following wool ' market cablegram from their London -house, Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Go., dated January 27th: —-Com pared with opening rates, inferior merino advanced 5 per cent. The market is very firm fior other sorts.

LONDON, January 28. Wool to-day is firm. Slightly better priced were obtained for scoured merinos. At yesterday’s sales merino’s were exceedingly firm and crossbreds were keenly competed for, excepting coarse fa.u 1 tie®. Americans are operating freely. Arnby Downs Manga tor brought B|d, W.D. (Now Zealand) 9§d. LONDON, January 29.

At the wool sales prices generally were maintained. Low crossbreds were occasionally weak.

SALES IN WELLINGTON

Levin and Co., Ltd., report:— “The third safe of the season was held yesterday at t.-ho Art Gallery, the various brokers offering 4000 bales. There was a large attendance of buyers, the best muster that has bean seen at the sales, several Continental and Home buyers attending for the first time. Tho wools in the catalogue were exceptionally free from grease, but seed a-nd cott.s were very prevalent, and materially .affected the value of much that was offered. Lambs’ wool was in good demand, and realised as high as 7|d, but seedy lambs had to sell at a considerable reduction -on this. Generally, there was a rise of Id to fd on the December sale prices, and we quitted nearly the whole of the catalogue under the hammer. The range of prices was a® follows:—Merino, Bjd; halibred, Old to 7RI; medium crossbred® and Romneys, Gld to 7d; co-arse crossbreds and Linco-lns, inferior, SRI to 6d; pieces and beliiies, 4d to sd; locke, to 3d; lambs, bright and clean 6|.d to 7i.d, slightly seedy 5d to fi-l-d. Some of the prices realised were: Rewarewa 61-d, JWS fine GJd, Forng-len Gfd, Hinaki 6kl, Myrtle did, Olive Gild, Tepunga G#d,. La-rchhan-k 6-ld, Morrison’s Hill 7d, ARO 6d, Ter o- to, lambs 7ifd, Homewood, . lambs 7-Jd, WW¥/ 7d, Riverside, lambs 7d, W and OH 7-d. GJB 7-d.”

Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:—Welle! d our third wool sale of the season yesterday. The total number of bales catalogued was 3872. It wa® expected that there would be a rise on prices realised at last sale, according to advices lately received from London, and ouch proved to bo the case, prices being from Jd to |d higher. Competition was keener than at any of the previous sales this season. The wool opened up in good condition, though a portion of rioedy’ wool was noticeable. We quote as follows:—-Bright crossbred, from 6d to 6=l d; inferior crossbred, from 5d to s|d; lambs’, from fid to 7\ d; pieces, from 3d to 4ld; lodes, from .to 2|d. Wo hold our ’ next saie on the- 18th February.

Murray, Roberts and Co. report: —-At the third sale of tho present season, we catalogued 1135 hales out of a total offering of 3888 bales. The attendance of buyers was largo, including representatives from America and the Conssr. well as the usual Bradford buyers, the number of the latter on this occasion being considerably In excess of previous sales. The wool offered was mainly strong .crossbred in heavy condition, and the quality generally was not eijual to wools shown at the two earlier sales. Prices advanced from £d tojfd per lb o-n most lots, but the advance was not so marked on the brighter woo»!s, owing to the condition of these Being heavier than earlier shorn wools. Lambs wool was eagerly bought and all lots were sold at' good prices. Pieces and locks also brought good values. We quote—Halfbred (inferior quality), 7d to SRI per lb; fine crossbred, 7d to 7RI; medium crossbred and Rom- - ney,G.id to 7RI; Lincoln and coarse crossbred,Old to 7d ; lambs, Gtd to 8-fe ; 1-ombs (seedy), 4fd to fifcl; pieces and bellies, 4cl to fikl; locks, 2d to 3ld.
