For the opening day of the Pahiatua Racing Club’s meeting beautiful weather was experienced. There was a large attendance, including visitors and racing officials from the Wairarapa, Manaiwatu and Hawke’s Bay districts. The sum of £6268 was passed through the totahsator, makino- £12.428 for the meeting—£23o/ more than last year, and a record tor the club. Goldwai did not shape so well as on the previous day. Lissa bad a comfortable victory in the Hurdles. The big race was a close contest to trie distance, where Freeland drew out ancl won with something to spare. Mr Geo. Hunter’s colours were also carried, to victory by Tattle in the Stewards’ Handicap, wl 10 finished like her dam used to do.
