HOW TO HAVE LOVELY HAIR.
No girl) need be Avholly unattractive if she has beautiful hair, and nearly every girl can have luxuriant hair just .for the trying. If not massively thick, the growth can he rich and glossy, and when dressed 'in a becoming fashion will create a vast amount of admiration. We neglect shamefully this most potent power of fascination. First of all, in this, as -in other toilet matters, comes the subject of cleanliness. The hair and scalp must be kept thoroughly clean, and that can be, overdone. For a normal head of hair shampooing once a month is quite sufficient. It is a very great temptation to throw a lump of soda into the shampooing water. It makes the hair so fluffy, and helps it to dry quickly. But it-, -is a .temptation to be resisted, for it- certainly renders the hair brittle and fades the colour. Almost any reliable chemist sells ,a good shampoo powder, but if you like “home-made” shampoos you could not do better than beat the yoke of an egg, in a cupful of cold or tepid water. Rub this well into; the scalp with the tips of the fingers, and it cleanses the scalp beautifully, besides acting as a tonic to the hair. It, however, becomes injurious unless washed off thoroughly Avith several rinsing war t-6TS • The best method of shampooing the hair is always fo turn it over the face after brushing it well up from the bock. A gentle pulling.of the hair against the roots is also beneficial in that it stimulates the circulation. Dandruff eate the roots of the hair, and must be got rid of. An effective lotion is made as folloiA-s:—l teatspoonful pondered borax; £ teaspoonful suet; \ teaspoonful flowers o? sulphur ; Coz rose-water; loz spirits rosemary. The hair should be brushed for ten minutes night and morning. For this purpose choose a clean brush with long, stiff bristles, and, resting the brush firmly on the head, draw it to the extreme ends with a slow stroke.
