The funeral on Saturday afternoon of tiro late Mr Joseph Hicks (a veteran of the Crimea, and for many years in charge of the Harbour Board’s weighbridge) was well attended. In acknowledgment of his services in the field the remains wore interred with military honours, the coffin being borne on a gun-carriage drawn by six horses, in charge -of a squad of New Zealand Royal Artillery, who also supplied the firing party. "The coffin was draped with the Union Jack, intertwined with the banner of the Loyal Orange Institution, of which Mr Hicks was a Past District Master. The cortege, which was a very long one, consisted of Orangemen (in regalia), the firing party of the N.Z.R.A. the gun-carriage, a number of cabs, and a numerous procession of friends on foot, including members of the Wellington branch of. the New Zealand Veterans’ Association. Mr Joseph Hicks, son of the deceased, was the chief mourner. The Harbour Board was represented by the secretary (Mr William Ferguson) and other officials, and Mr J. P. Luke represented the City Counci.l. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Revs. H. B. Redstone and James Dawson, the lodgo ceremonial for the dead being conducted by the Rev. N.
