LINEN TABLE D’OYLEYS WITH CROTCHETED BORDERS
Among the pi’etty appointments for the table are d’oyleys for plates, fingerbowl® and goblets. made of linen damask, decorated with washing silk in Kensington designs, and borders of crochet.
Twelve d'oyleys of each of the kinds mentioned are usually made, those foxplates being 6} in. in diameter before the border is made. The finger-bowl d’oyleys are each cut of a; piece of damask four inches in diameter, and the goblet d’oyleys two and three-fourth inches in diameter. The edges are closely woiked in buttonhole-stitcli with white washing silk; which is also xxsed for outlining the Kensington design. Crocheted Border.—Use fine iinen thread for the borderFirst round—l s c in buttonhole-si. 3 ch for fix*st tr., 1 tr in each loop of buttonholesst; 1 s cin top of 3 eh. Second round—2 knot-st. To make a knot-st, draw the 10-o-p up half-an-inch, catch the thread and draw through ; then insert the hook between the raised loop and the loop last made*, and make a d c. Miss 6 tr, *1 d e ini next. 2 more knot-st; miss tr, and repeat from. * At the end make 1 knot-st, ldo in d e of first 2 knot-st. Third round—7 clx, 1 d c in d c of knotst Repeat. Fourth roundI—3 1 —3 ch, 2 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr in fourth of 7 ch; 3 ch, 1 d c in. d c of last round. Repeat. Fifth round.—4 ch, 6 tr with 1 cli between each tr under 2 eh *cf last round; 4 ch, Idc in cl eof last round. Repeat, Sixth round.—'S c to 1 clx between first 2 tr, 9 cli, 1 d c in sixth ch counting from the one on lxook; to make a picot; 1 tr in next 1 eh; * 6 chi, 1 d c in second st of clx; 1 d c under next 1 ch; repeat from * twice more; 3 clx, 1 tr under first 1 ch of next scallop. Repeat.
