bn the subject of school attendance, the chairman of the Wellington Educar ition Board in his annual report to the Minister of Education, says:—“ Apparently a large number of parentis fail to appreciate their children’s educational opportunities, for no leas than 2600 children aa-e daily absent from school. It is to be feared tliajt the indifference of parents, rather than tlie fault of the children, accounts for this irregularity." Tlie Board has issued circulars pointing out the duities of committees and teachers in this matter. Notices under the School Attendance Act have also, in some instances, been issued ; bufc the question has been allowed t-o rest there, which is much to be regretted.” Arrangements have been made for the daily steamer service between New Plymouth and Oneliunga re-cominene-ing from November Ist.
