'A concert inaugurated in aid of the funds of the Public Library was held last Wednesday night. It is a regretable happening, that though musically the concert was very enjoyable and of much merit, the financial results were not nearly so good as was desirable for so worthy a public object. The programme included instrumental items by Miss Jolly’s band of five players, Miss Jolly being pianiste, and songs were given by Mrs Boilans (“When the Heart is Young”), Miss Chappie (“Sally Horner”), Miss A. Merrylees (“When the Harvest Days ar© Over”), Miss Boyle (“Queen of the Earth,”— and!
Messrs Slade (“Tho Fisherman”), Higham (“Noreen Mavourneen” and “Let me like a soldier fall”), Lyons (“Tha Gauntlet’s Doavh”), Pritchard' (“Tha leoman’s Wedding” and “Will of tha vv isp.”) Mr Reed, the siffleur, gave some items on tlie single and double av hist-lea A'cry charmingly, and received, an encore. Mr Chambers returned the thanks of the committee for the patronage of the audience, and explained that* tho proceeds would go to a fund which Avan accumulating toAvards building a public library. A dance followed °tha concert. Ootober 16th.
