COURSING.
FIXTURES, 1004. Wellington and Suburban C.C. — April 2nd, 4th, and sth; June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Oarnaru C.C.—April 27th, 28th, 29th; ' July 23th and 29tb. Dunedin G.C. —May 3rd. NOTES. (By “Go-Bye.”) Vagrant Lady by Vagrant—Stolen Treasure, whelped to Nobleman last month. There"were three in the litter. I am informed of several whelpings taking place lately, but the secretary of the W. and S.C.C. tells me that the owners are very slow in registering the litters. A word of advice to owners would not bo out of place in this column, and I cannot do better than quote Rule G of the N.Z.C.A., which says: “Every litter of greyhounds must be registered in the books of the N.Z.C.A. before the puppies are three months old, or they will not be allowed to run in any sapling or Puppy Stakes. Should the litter not” bo registered before the expiry of the three months every puppy must be registered singly and a name given to it.” Owners will therefore see that if their litters are not registered before three months old they will be unable to race their hounds in Puppy or Sapling Stakes. The Wellington and Suburban Coursing Club held their half yearly meeting in the Truro Hall, Taranaki street, on Monday evening, Mr R. E. Bannister presiding. Mr H. W. Davies, the lionroc., presented the report and balancesheet. which showed a balance of assets over liabilities of £32 17s sd. The featuro of the Report was the enormous oast that the Club has been to buying live hares. The sum of no less than £I2G 10s was spent by the club in the purchase of hares and freight. This sum exceeded the estimate at the beginning of the season by about £7O and was attributable to the bad weather and severe winter and also to some miscreant, on the eve of the Wellington Cup, driving or catching about seventy hares that were specially trained for the coursing. This act necessitated the Club procuring other hares from Mr E. Bull, of Rangitata to replace them. The Committee of the Club have had an uphill fight on account of the hares dying, etc., and are to bo congratulated on the balance shown. Mr Bannister during the evening presented the medal won by Mr G. Hastie’s Dusky May, who ran up In the Wellington Plate. The medal, which was the donation of the “'New Zealand Times” and “Mail” proprietary, was in the shape of a Maltose cross. It is beautifully engraved, a fine shapely greyhound being cut on one side and the other suitably inscribed and reflects great credit on the establishment of Mr G. T. White, who was responsible for its manufacture.
