Lord Rosmead, whp is mentioned as the probable successor of the Earj of Ranfurly as Governor of New Zealand;, is not unknown in this country, if© is the eldest son of the late Lord Rosmead, better known here as Sir Hercules Robinson. During his father’s popular tenure of the Governorship of this colony the present Lord Rosmend, then known as Hercules Arthur Temple Robinson, attended Nelson College as a boarder during 1879-80. It is interesting to note that Lord Rosmead is related to Lady Ranfurly. He first he ( ld a lieutenant’s commission in the Army with the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, and in 1900 saw active service as Major in the 6th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. During his period of service in the,Boer "War he was appointed A.D.C. to Major-General Hutton, and was honourably mentioned in despatches. Lord Rosmead married a daughter of the fourth Lord Oastlemaine. He is not quite thirty-seven years of ago. In reference to the deputation that recently waited upon the Minister for Railways from Mungaroa, Mr Wilford has been informed that the request for ■a milk train from Mungaroa to the Lpper Ilutt has been acceded to; also, that, the Mungaroa passengers will in future be allowed to alight at that station on tlueir way from the Wairarapta. Sir Joseph Ward has further informed Mr Wilford that two sites are under consideration for cait tie-yards. at the Lower Ilutt. and that instructions have been given to extend the platform at Olivers;, ream-
