The committee of the Musical Festival has decided that the soloists 111 * iio performance of the oratorio Ihe Messia” are to be Mrs Revell (formerly of Christchurch), soprano; Mess O Donovan, contralto; Mr Henry Weir, tenor; and Mr Hamilton Hodges, bass. It has also been decided that Miss H. Tansicy shall take the contralto soles m. Hie Ancient Mariner ” Mr G. T, Bormmgton, of Christchurch, has been engaged to play the cor Anglais paro in “the Golden Legend,” and the which will probably consist of fiKy-six performers, is to be strengthened by the inclusion of other performers one of whom, it has been decided, vill be Mi J. C. Isberwood, formerly of Palmerston, and now of Wellington._lt has been decided that Miss Grace Kennedy, ih to lead the orchestra. The committee has fixed the prices of admission at 4s, 3s, 2s. and Is; but it has also been decided to issue season tickets ior due six nights for the dress circle or orchestral stalls for the sum of one guinea, and for the back stalls for 15s. It m probable that during the week ox the festival two or three chamber concerts will be given in the afternoons. The death is recorded by cable from Hobart of the Hon N. J - ü ßr °S Speaker of the House of Assembly. The deceased was born at Hobart in 1838. He first entered Parliament m lbio, becoming Minister of Lands and' yVoiks two years later. He held the same portfolios at different times up to 1887. Mr Brown was appointed to represent b» colony in the federal Council but did not sit after the Fysh Ministry took office, being objected to as a political opponent. He was elected Speaker in 1831,
