W. J. C. Hiddell, who won the amateur championship of Victoria in 1901, has again won that title. His aggregate of 323 was five better than that of'H. Macneill, the Sydney player, who was the holder of the title. Mcneill, being away, did not defend the championship. The final scores were:—W. J. O. An Australian, paper says:—“Tarcha, a native of Hawke’s Bay, has won the New Zealand championship.” At a meeting of the Royal Sydney Golf Club the prospectus in connection with the proposal to purchase 214 acres of land at Rose Bay, at a cost of £2OO per acre, for the establishment of golf links was considered. The scheme, if carried out, will give the club firstclass links, and an excellent residential club house close to the room at Rose Bay. The whole of the land is to he secured by the company, with a. capital of £20,000, divided into 20,000 contributing shares of £1 each. The company will erect- a residential club house on the knoll near the tramline at a cost of about £3OOO, with facilities for other games—tennis lawns, bowling greens, etc., and spend about £IOOO in clearing and grassing the golf course and making bunkers, etc. For the jlinks it is estimated that about 80 acres / will be required, and the club will be given a 15 years’ lease of tins

and of th© dub house site, with the rigtiiC to purchase at a valuation to be made at time of lease, the rental to be v3£ per cent, on the vajue of the land and 5 per cent, on the outlay of the company on the club house, clearing, grassing, etc. The financial arrangements of the Golf dub are based on a membership of 250 at an annual subscription of £5 5s and it was pointed out that, in anticipation of the scheme, there is already active application ior membership.
