The Hands Department has at the present time nearly 3,000,000 acres of Crown lands open for selection. In making the statement, ‘That in three years’ time there will be very little suitable land left in this country for close settlement,” tho Hon T. Y. Duncan referred to Crown lands in the Wellington, Taranaki, Auckland, _ and East Coast districts that were being opened up and made available for selection. The work of settling. the people on these lands will, the Minister thinks, be greatly facilitated by the Bill which ho intends to introduce this session, by allowing settlers from two to four years’ time for making improvements without either rent or taxes being levied during that period
