HUMANE SOCIETY AWARDS

AUCKLAND, July 3. Yesterday aftermon the Mayor (Hon E Mitchelson) presented awards made by the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand Among those who attended were one or two survivors from the Ehngamite, which was wrecked at the Three Kings last November. The awards were as follows: Walter W. Hurley, bronze medal m case, with special ribbon, also certificate on parchment, for courage and humanity. Hurley has on several occasions jumped into the sea to save people in danger of drowning. One, for which the medal was given, was for jump ng over to save a woman in Auckland harbour. Captain W. D. Reid, special ceitificate on vellum, illuminated and in carved oak frame. This was awarded fer courage and humanity shown at the wieok of the Elingamite . . n A framed certificate similar to Oaptain Reid’s, but not illuminated. wa« awarded to Alias Emily R. Barren, who bv prompt action at Bllersli© Sialu-n most probably saved the Me of a n-ale passenger. 'Skinner for jumping into the harbour to save people from drowning.
