Mr Hogg, M.H.R., who has lately been in communication, with the Lands Department in reference to native and other reserves in the Masterton district which ho considers should be opened up for settlement, is informed by the Minister of Lands that the native blocks can only be dealt with under the Maori Land Administration Act. 1900. It will be necessary to obtain further power under the Land for Settlements Act to take native land suitable for close settlement. With reference to other reserves near Eketahuna, to which attention has been called, the Commissioner of Crown Lands is being asked to see what can he done to make them available for selection. The Customs revenue for the past quarter shows an increase of £21,341 10s 7d on the corresponding period of 1902, and ,an increase for the month of June of £10.706 11s 2d. The increase of beer duty against June last year is £126 2s 6d. Following are the figures for the quarter ending June, 1902: —Customs revenue, £114,020 11s 2d; beer duty, £2207 7s 9d. For June quarter, 1903—Customs revenue, £135,362 Is 9d ; beer duty, £2333 10s 3d. Fof: the month of Juno 1902 —Customs revenue, £35,180 18s 2d; beer duty, £7BO 14s 9d. For June, 1903—Customs revenue, £45,887 9s 4d; beer duty, £635 19s sd.
