The latter got the best of the start, but the pair, finishing well, were together at the end of the journey, the distance having been cut out in lmin 45sec, both being anxious to go on. It was a real good°working gallop, but evidently disappointed some of the touts, who wanted to see a record put up by this redoubtable pair. Strathavon and Mars are to arrive today to fulfil their engagements here. Both of these were fancied for the Cup. NeAvs is to hand that owing to an accident, .Strathavon has been scratched for all engagements at the Wanganui meeting. Sir George Clifford’s pair, Windwhistle and Deerstalker, arrived on Saturday. There was a good crowd of touts on the course this morning, when some interesting work was witnessed, though nothing sensational was recorded. As usual, George Laing was first to put in an appearance, with Pistola and Lord Raglan, who were restricted to steady work. Windwhistle and St. Lyra were given serviceable work, and then Advance and Achilles were sent a mile. The black horse was a length or more behind at the start, but the pair finished well together in lmin 45sec.
