The Minister of Education, on behalf of himself and staff of the Education Department, presented a gold watch and chain on Saturday to one of the most popular officers of that department, Mr H. B. Kirk, who has just been appointed Professor of Biology at Victoria College. The Hon. Mr Walker spoke highly cf the admirable services which Mr Kirk had rendered to the department, and said the industry and ability of the new professor would undoubtedly secure for him the greatest possible success in his new position. Mr Kirk, who said he severed his connection with the Education Department with great, regret, added that it would be his endeavour to make the Chair of Biology at Victoria College one of the best in the Australasian colonies. , A cable message states that Bishop Neligan will leave London for Auckland on the 26th March.
