Authors and Periods reported that candidates for examination in French be allox\ r ed to take advantage of tbe concessions made in French grammar by the French Minister of Public Instruction. With regard to the quest tion of oral examinations in French and German, the cbmmittee regretted the difficulties in the way in most examinations, but recommended that tbe experiment to be tried in the honours and senior scholarship examinations to be held in 1904; also that oral examination should consist of:—(1) Reading a selected unseen passage from a French or German author; (2) xvriting from dictation; (3) conversation in French or German on portion of prescribed books indicated beforehand by the oral examiners.
