The Auckland City Council evidently intends taking advantage of the clause in the Municipal Corporations Act providing for persons not connected with a Council as members to serve on committees. Notice of motion has been tabled inviting* Dr Goldie to take a seat on the Finance Committee. Probably the strained state of the Council’s finances has suggested the step it is now proposed to take. The Petone Borough Council decided last week to abolish the ward system, and the new order of things will be inaugurated simultaneously with the election of the new Council. It was reported there were 942 houses within the area rated by the borough, the total ratable value of the property being £34,321 ss. This represents an increase on the old valuations of £4601 10s
