WOODVILLE7 February 25. The Woodvillo District Jockey Club’s autumn meeting opened to-day in showery weather, but it cleared after the second race.

The winner of the Cup turned up in Oracle, one or the least backed of the field. Alas, who failed to get placed in the Maiden, -won the Welter in good style. The stewards considered his running. They decided not to disturb the judgo’s decision. Th 6 sum cf £4726 was passed through the totalisator, £443 less than on the corresponding day last year. .Results: — Maiden Plate, of 40 sovs; one mile.— 55 Mr J. Passing the stand the leaders were Dauber, Westerly, Moleskin and Romany Lad. The latter and Hinekura drew out at the band, Romany Lad winning by a clear length. Westerly was three lengths away. Oracle drew out halfway down the straight, and won by a bare length, Tupara beating Good Intent by half a length. Time, 2min 15 4-ssec. Dividends, £l9 7s anct £2 14s.

At the bend Assayer was in front, and was attended by Narcotic and Rioter. Assayer led into the straight, and looked all over a winner until Narcqtio shot out at the half-dis-tance. The Woodvillo Jockey Club’s meeting concluded to-day in splendid weather. There was a large attendance, and some good racing was witnessed. The sum of £4902 was passed through the totalisator, making £9625 for the meeting. This is £9 less than last year. Details :

At the six-furlong mark Orloff commenced his run. A furlong further on there were only five in it-—Lady Lilian, Gene-, ral Symons, Orloff. Vladimir and Cannie Chiel. When at about the three-furlong post Cannie Chiel moved up quickly, and was disputing the lead with Lady Lilian and General Symons. -As they turned into the straight for two or three strides Cannie Chiel was actually in front. Orloff came at him on the outside below the distance, and these two had the finish to themselves, the end of which was a win for Orloff by two lengths and a half. The Dunedin Jockey Club’s autumn meeting was concluded at Wingatui today. In the Hurdles First Shot and Dartmoor came down. The rider of First Shot escaped with some had bruises, but Mathie, rider of Dartmoor, was badly hurt and had to be removed to the hospital in an unconscious condition, being injured about the head and chest. The sum of £5713 was put through the machine during the day, making a total of £16,632 10s for the meeting, as against £18,527 for the autumn meeting last year.
