During tlio hearing of*the grocers’ dispute in the northern city, Mr Justice Cooper remarked that in Auckland there did not seem to .be any great number of Chinese in the grocery trade, though in Wellington there were a great many. Mr Templer, who appeared for the Master Grocers’ Union, replied that the conditions of the grocery trade in Auckland were such by reason of competition amongst the whites that even a Chinese could not make a living at it!
