Dalgety and Co.. Limited. Christchurch, have received the following cable message from London, dated 15th inst:—There is a slightly better demand for frozen meat. Prices of frozen beef are unchanged. Prime New Zealand mutton is worth 5-Id, and North Island mutton 4ifd per lb; prime New Zealand la.mb, sgd. Since our last telegram prices of Danish butter are lower by one and a half to two kroner. The market is weak. We quote : —Danish, lOSs; Canadian, 102 s; and Victorian primo factory, 105 s per cwt. The market for cheese is advancing, and there ai*e buyers of Canadian at 64s per cwt. The wool market is very firm, and tending upwards strongly. Hides are in fair demand at unchanged prices.
Dalgety and Co.. Ltd., Christchurch, have received cable advice from London, dated 16th inst.. that prices of leather and basils are unchanged.
The .Department of Agriculture lias received the following cable message from the Agent-General. London: —The mutton market is weak. Buyers are nob inclined to make forward purchases of mutton at present prices. A further, drop in prices of mutton seems imminent. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is syd. North Island mutton, 44d. River Plate mutton, 4-fd. Stocks of lamb on hand are light. The average price to-day for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is sfd. The beef market is quiet. New Zealand hinds 4;}d. Fores. 3|d.‘ The butter market is dull. The price of butter to-day is 105 s per cwt; Danish, 107 s; Siberian, 97s ; Canadian, 995. The cheese market is very firm. Karamea shipment, 62s per cwt. The hemp market is firm. The price of “Good Fair Wellington” grade on spot to-day is £33 10s per ton. - January-March shipments, £3O. There has been no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market since last week. ' FRIDAY’S SKIN SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports as follows:—Our fortnightly sale was well attended, and good prices were obtained for every lot catalogued. We offered over 1500 skins and 60 sacks and packages of wool. Prices obtained were well above those ruling at previous sale. We quote : —Sheepskins—Half-bred and merino, s|d. to 6£d; fine crossbred; 4fd to 5Td ; good crossbred, 4d to 44d; medium”, 3d to 3Jd ; dead skins and broken, 2d to 3£d; shorn pelts, lid to Is 3d; lamb skins, Is to Is 3d each. Wool in bags fetched satisfactory prices. Murray, Roberts and Co. report: We offered 4100 sheepskins and about 35 sacks of wool, mostly pieces. Wick, the increased inquiry for stronger wools and the advance in price of basils, prices showed a hardening tendency, and may be quoted fully a farthing per lb higher than last sale,, especially for good, well-saved crossbreds, in light condition, which were eagerly sought for. We quote prices for skins as under: —Haifbreds and merinos, half to woolled, s|dto 6£d per lb; fine crossbreds, full wools, sid to s|d per lb; medium crossbreds, full wools, 4|d to sid per lb; coarse crossbreds, full wools, 4£d to 5d per lb; crossbreds, half wools, 3£d to 4£d per lb; crossbreds, short wools, 2|-d to 3jd per lb; hoggets and dead, 2|d to 3|l per lb; pelts (shorn), up to lOd each.
