LONDON WOOL SALES.

The selection of wool brought forward by Messrs Jacomb, Son and Co. in their catalogue of 13,807 bales on July 12, was the best offered so far this series, and met with the most animated competition. Merinos from Sydney, Geelong and Tasmania were well and largely represented, and for the greasy sorts French houses were large buyers of the better grades, while the Home trade steadily absorbed all sorts at full and hardening rates, the advance paid being 7£ per cent., and occasionally 10 per cent, on last auction rates. There was increased American buying of fine lightconditioned wools at top prices. Scoured merinos were especially in favour on French, German, and English account, and very full prices were paid by each section for their particular requirements, a level of 74 per cent, above last auction prices being firmly maintained and often exceeded. Locks and pieces when m good condition show the full advance, hut short and faulty sorts are only 5 per cent. up. Lambs’ 'wool is selling at a full 5 per cent, advance on opening rates, and is now 7% to 10 per cent, dearer than in May, the clips being strongly competed for at that level. A good many half-bred and fin© crossbred wools from Tasmania and New Zealand met with spirited competition from the home section, and medium to good crossbreds under the same support also had a firm sale. There were fewer mw crossbreds in the catalogue, and withdrawals were much, less frequent. Tasmanian grease realised up to 14dGeelongs, 13|d; and Sydney, 13d per lb.
