The information supplied by our Palmerston North representative, appearing in another column, though quite correct in every other particular, is, we aro informed, not quite in accordance with tho facts of the case so far as the Department of Agriculture is concerned. The freezing works at New Plymouth are the only ones at present supplying chilling accommodation for butter. In the event of large shipments coming forward to bo chilled at Wellington and Lyttelton it would Be impossible to deal with them unless the freezing works at these ports provide accommodation for this purpose. Should satisfactory arrangements ho made with the shipping companies for the carriage of butter to the Cape via Australia—and which will have to be carried from here to Australia in an unfrozen condition—tho Department of Agriculture will then probably render every assistance towards securing the special chilling accommodation indicated. Tho election to fill a vacancy on the Lower Hutt Borough Council resulted in the return of Mr Emanuel Do Rosa, who polled 250 votes, against Mr A. li. V. Dodder’s 158-
