The funeral of Trooper William Thomson, late of the Sixth New Zealand Contingent, took place on Friday from the Hospital, where he died from the ejects of enteric contracted in South Africa. The funeral was a military one, and there was a lai-ge attendance-of volunteers of the garrison, especially of the members of the Zeaiandia Rifles, the corps to which deceased belonged! The Garrison Band headed the .procession. The pall-bearers were Sergeant-Major Parkinson and Trooper Barrett, of the Sixth Contingent; Trooper James," of the Rhodesian Field Force, and three members of the Zeaiandia Rifles. The ■ firing party at the grave at Karori was formed of the Permanent Artillery. The work of replacing ii'on telephone wires with copper lines is now being earned out in various Diaces in tho South Island. The fund for the Archdeacon Stock memorial window in St. Peter’s Church now amounts to £135 14s. Amoiig the numerous contributions is one of £lO 10s from Colonel Pearce, who is now in England, and another of £2O from Mr and Mrs E. G. Jellicoe. " The Lands Department has been advised from Dannevirke that six sections and four runs in the Mangatoro estate remained undisposed of at the ballot last week. These, however are all expected to be quitted. ’
