It appears that tlie company, to whom tho corporation leased the tramways, have been unable to work them at a
profit, and the corporation took judgment against them for £4Q,9wO, under which they could enter into possession of the tramways. Notice to this effect was given to the company, whereupon _ a meeting was at once held, and tho \iew expressed that a profit could be made if the tramcars could be run on a Sunday. Without giving the orporation or the citizens time to raise objections, the company accordingly launched their announcement, and next Sunday morning saw the strange sight in Edinburgh of the tramway sendee in full siving. The public seemed to enjoy the novelty, and the tramcars were well patronised. Denunciatory pulpit references were made, and an indignation meeting protested on the ground that the traincars were run without the sanction of the council and citizens.
