EKETAHUNA.
(By Telegraph. - Own Correspondent.) ~ , , Friday, 7 p.m. Councillor Anderson at last meeting of the County Council gave notice to move at next meeting that no smoking should he allowed in the Council chamber. Councillor Anderson advocated the destruction of any noxious weed of any kind in the district. Councillor Von Reden opposed the motion, stating that at the first meeting of the Council a resilution was passed allowing smoking. The result will be interesting as six Councillors are inveterate smokers and only three non-smokers. Dr .Murray-Aynsiey has been appointed secretary of the Eketaliuna Cricket Club, vice Mr Dempsey resigned. In the return cricket match Hainua versus Eketaliuna, the latter were defeated. The Eketaliuna races will be held on the 17tli March next. The funeral of the late Mr B. Syverson was largely attended. The British and Scandinavian flags were flying at halfmast on the route of the procession. A number of beautiful wreaths covered the coffin. Rev J. Walker officiated at the grave. The telephone connecting Nireaha with Eketaliuna was opened to-day.
