PORT NICHOLSON CLUB.

The first handicap yacht races of the season, under the auspices of the Port Iviicholson Yacht Club were sailed on Saturday afternoon in a fresh north-west breeze The handicaps framed by Mr W. Munck-

bow and lorangi, scratch; Waitangi, 2min. Second-class —Atalanta, scratch; Mahina, 2min; Syren, 3min. In the first-class event Waitangi was first over tlio line at 2.30.20; Rainbow crossed at 2.30.45; and lorangi at 2.30.55. The finish was timed —Rainbow (winner), 4.58.35; lorangi (.third). 5.0.28; Waitangi (second), 5.0.58. In the second-class Syren crossed the line at 2.45.40. Mahina at 2.45.55 and Ata. lanta at 2.47.18. Syren received the winning gun at 4.36.0, followed by Atalanta at 4.39.26 and Mahina at 4.50.14. Considerable interest was shown by the spectators in the fh’st-class event and lorangi’s performance was considered a fair one in this, her first race. In the absence of Mr J. B. Speed, through illness, Mr R. C. Renner acted as starter, timekeeper and judge.
