DRAUGHTS.

(Communications to this column will be welcomed. All correspondence to be addressed, Draughts Editor, "New Zealand Mail.") (Those forwarding games would oblige by placing record of play in five columns. Solutions of problems are invited).

SOLUTION TO PROBLEM No. 15. Black men, 5, 11, 21; King, 32. White men, 18, 28, 30; King, 19.

White to move and win.

PROBLEM No. 16.

Black men on 7,8, 24; King on 12. White men on 6, 18, 19; King on 13

Black.

White.

White to move and win.

CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY.

We are indebted to Mr J. A. Boreham for the following game, which was played between him and Mr G. Boiiker in the championship tourney at Palmerston North:—GAME.—"Second Double Corner.” Boreham's move.

(a) 32 28 is better, and is book play. (b) Don't play any further until you try to see how to win with Black. (c) Mr Bouker said this was a surprise. He expected 11 16,24 20, 1619, etc., draws; but at note (b) I counted on 6 9 for a win.

CORRECTORS CORRECTED.

(By J. A. Bo reham, Ardgowan, Oamaru). Game No. 2054 in the "Christchurch Weekly Press" is a "Pioneer," purporting to correct "Ancient and Modern' An*

can Princes'' and uphold the "Authorities" :

And the position is given below: Black men on 1,2, 7, 10, 11, 12, 22. White men on 5, 13, 19, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30.

Drawn. a 9 14 draws—Atkinson v. Lees, b 4 8 can run into a "Dyke" or "Oft! Fourteenth"—Sturges. c 9 13 is a "Switcher.”—Payne, d 7 11 loses. —J. Tonaiv e 11 15 draws.—Janvier, f 18 15 loses.—Sturges. g The "American Princes" show 11 16 here also draws, but the fact of them dis* covering another variation does not correct “The Authorities. ** To this point the game is by Payne. i Payne plays 13 9, and draws. I think it quite equal to the "American Princes" 30 25, which they give to correct the Authorities, but

h Herein they fail to sustain a White win, which has to be done to make note g good. Instead of the text they play 25 22, allowing White to win. I submit 7 10 at note h to draw and correct the "American Princes/' and uphold the Authorities. —J.A.B.

We are obliged to Mr J. A. Boreham, Ardgowan, for a series of games, problems and criticisms which we will pulish .in due course. To-day we present players with an interesting game and Mr B.'s article on "Correctors Corrected.’’

Mr Abemethy, of the "Otago Witness," says some steps should be promptly taken to resuscitate the New Zealand Draughts Association. The present position is anomalous and unsatisfactory in the extreme. We have a secretary in Auckland, the president in Christchurch, and the headquarters in Dunedin. Could anything be more absurd? A re-organisation is badly needed in the interests of the game.
