AUCKLAND, August 2. The secretary of the proposed Queen Victoria School for Maori girls announces further subscriptions, bringing the amount in hand to £2070.
CHRISTCHURCH, August 2. At the meeting of the Lyttelton TSar* bcur Board, a motion was carried, ‘‘that the question of improving the present methods of discharging and loading vessels at Lyttelton be referred to the Harbour Improvement Committee • for thorough investigation, the committee to have power to call for expert evidence,” DUNEDIN, August 2. : At a Chamber sitting of the Supreme Court, application was made for payment of clerical assistance and of travelling expenses to the liquidator of the Ward Farmers’ Association. Mr Justice Williams thought it should be support* ed by an affidavit giving details. It the liquidator was paid by commission his personal expenses should not tall on the estate. On behalf of the Coloj nial Bank liquidators, hope was expressed that the matter would not be prolonged, as the liquidators were only waiting the passing of the accounts of this company to conclude their work, which had already been delayed seven months by this estate. NAPIER, August 1.
Mr G. P.-Donnelly has received a cable from Mr T. W. Lewis, solicitor, who went to England to appear before the Privy Council in the ivaiwaka ■ appeal case, notifying him that the appeal had been dismissed. This finally settles che case in favour of Mrs Donnelly and Tarelia
WOODVILLE, August 3.
The Farmers’ C.ub quarterly dinner was held last night. Mr Glass, of the Farmers’ Union, and Mr Moore, of the Producers’ Union, gave addresses. There will probably be a strong accession in this district to the .ranks of the Farmers’ Union
TIMARU, August 4
A meeting of farmers yesterday to form a union was attended by about 120, and it was unanimously resolved Jto form a union. The chief argument used was that it was necessary to unite to conserve the interests of farmers from injuries threatened by recent and pro posed labour legislation. It was agreed that farm labourers may be members of the union.
