Speaking at a New South Wales meet, ing of dairymen, a supplier stated that since feeding his calves on pasteurised milk he had ten per cent, less loss than when feeding them on skimmed milk as it came from the creamery unpasteurised. * * * *
At the Rockhampton Show (Queensland) recently the prize for butter yield was carried off by a Jersey grade, six vears old, which gave a yield of 1.9621 b in the twentyfour hours, under show-yard conditions. The second prize went to an Ayrshire grade, and the third prize to a shorthorn grade. >•
At a conference of dairymen held last month in New South Wales the following resolution was carried unanimously: v That this meeting is strongly in favour of all butter being graded and paid for according to merit/ - ’ A few years back the grading system in vogue in this colony was laughed at by New Soath Wales dairymen and set down as useless State interference. They have evidently learnt wisdom since then.
At a meeting of dairymen at Derry (New S-uth wales; it was stated Uiat, owing to the introduction of pasteurisation into the butter factories of that colony it was stated that £d per pound could be obtained ici superiuie pasteurised butter over* the ciumary rates. The management of the Deny factory, it was further stated, had deemed to pay during the six winter months three farthings a pound extra lor superfine pasteurised buttei’, a half-penuy as usual for ordinary pasteurised and one farthing over cieamery rates to tho-e private separator owners who brought their cream every day m a condition iresh enough to be pasteurised. Sunday's cream, which was not delivered till Monday, would not be classed. as superfine.
