Something like a thousand wild horses are said to have been shot down within the last few months in the Lake Taupo district. The commercial value of the animals :s 2s 6d for a mane and tail. Flounders are said to be very scarce in the Wanganui river this season, and Wanganui fishermen are compelled to procure them from Napier and Porirua. Herrings are particularly plentiful at Wanganui heads. Some of the screws used in. watches ara so small that it takes 380,000 of them to weigh a pound.
