RIFLE SHOOTING

THE COMMONWEALTH PRIZE

MEETING

(Contributed)

The matches in connection with the Commonwealth Prize Meeting of the National Rifle Association of New South Wales, which were concluded on the 12th inst., were a great success in ©very way. Over a thousand competitors from all parts of the British Empire took part. This colony was represented by a team of twelve men selected by the Government. They were supplied with the tvelwe imported Lee-Enfiold rifles manufactured for the Government by Mr Frazer, of Edinburgh, Scotland, at a cost of £l2 each. The passage mouey and the cost of the new khaki uniforms for each member were also defrayed by the Government. Lieut.-Colonel Collins, of Wellington, was in command of the team. Besides the above about the same number went over at their own expense. The following New Zealanders won prizes in the Commonwealth aggiegate, being made up of the scores of the principal matches that were fired during the meeting •

From +h© details of the Teams Mateo, it will be seen that the New Zealand Government team made a very poor effort—even failing at the 700 yards range to fire their specified number of shots within the time allowed. Considering the large number of teams entered (over 40) the New Zealand “B” team may be congratulated on the creditable position won in such keen competition. Details of the match and the scores of both of our teams are as follow :

The Empire, 700, 800 and 900 yards, seven shots at each. Fired under time limit of one hour twenty minutes at 700 and 800 yards respectively, and one hour thirty minutes _ at 900 yards.
