PRIZES FOR GYMNASTICS.

The team sent to represent the Wellington Physical Training School at the Gymnastic Tournament field at Christchurch last week acquitted itself in a highly creditable manner, winning four out cf six competitions, and securing twenty-four silver and tiro gold medals. The ladies’ team was constituted as follows : —Misses R. Gamhrili, Woods, M. McLean, I M. Churchward, E. Gyles, E. Dunes, A. Williams. V. Wills and C. Richardson. This team won all the competitions for which it entered, securing twelve silver medals for dumb-bell exercises and club-swinging. Miss Gambriii obtained a special gold medal for the highest number of points scored. The musical accompaniments were played by Miss Richardson. The success of the team was a very popular one, the displays being neat and clever. The men’s team consisted of Messrs W. G. Somerville (captain and coach), H. and G. Girdlestone, Charles Moore, H. Raymond, C. Webb and H. Hunter-Brown. They acquitted themselves equally well, winning the competitions on the Roman rings and parallel bars, and . obtaining twelve silver medals. One of the members, H. Girdlestone, secured the gold medal for highest points in the apparatus work. O wing to a misunderstanding, Mr Somerville lost, five points in the exercise on the horizontal bar, thereby losing his chance for the gold medal presented to the competitor securing the second highest points on the apparatus. The following are the six highest aggregates obtained by competitors on the apparatus: —H. Girdlestone (Welling, ton), 151 points; T. H. Harker (St. Luke’s), 144 points; W. G. Somerville (Wellington), 141 points; G. Girdlestone (Wellington), 135 points;, Charles Moore (Wellington), 134 points ; H. Jewis (St. Luke’s), 133 points. The Wellington team was awarded highest points under the headings of carriage, physical condition, class organisation and discipline.
