THE PANGS OF SUICIDE.

A remarkable case oi suicide has 311st occurred at the quiet little village 01 Broughton Astlev, Leicestershire. A resident, named William Thorne, who atone time held several public offices, and was a well-known newspaper correspondent, cut his throat. After he had committed the deed he wrote several statements, one of which ran as follows: “At the moment I had clone it, light and reason and clearness of brain came instantly, and I cried a great wail of anguish" to God, in sorrow for my awful sin. And though I was utterly at the mercy of the tempter I at once mourned with deepest sorrow and contrition. But the answer came, ‘You should have given that- cry beforS.’ Just, plain, unlawful fact. Everything how passed through my mind with vivid force, and I have been, and am, continually seeing all the events of my past life from early boyhood up to now. Great things and small things, and ail my sins seem clear to me with very little good to God." The jury returned a- verdict of suicide whilst temporarily insane.
