FATAL STABBING.
QUARRELSOME BOYS, j ' i > DUNEDIN; Monday.; A A sad stabbing affray occurred, at South Dunedin this afternoon, resulting, in the death-of a boy named Cunning-^ 1 ham, fourteen years-'of age. It appears that a - boy,named 'Milburp,. between eleven and twelve years, was whittling 1 * a stick with a knife; when Cunningham kicked him on the’ shin. Milburn at once struck at hipi with the knife, which penetrated the stomach, and death fe- , suited. The boy Milburn has been ar- ; rested on a charge of murder. DUNEDIN; Tuesday:; I John-Thomas Milburn, 12 years of ■ age, was charged at the Police Court to-day with feloniously killing and murdering John Cunningham, 14 years of ' age. The case was remanded till : Thursday, bail being allowed. . ,; At the inquest, the evidence of Dr Fulton was to the effect that he found a small punctured wound on the left ; breast , between the fifth and sixth ribs, ! and directly . over a portion .of the heart. Tlie„ evidence of the two boys Grai ham, who were the only witnesses of " the stabbing, was to the effect that all * were playing together. The brothers ' Graham had a disagreement, the one \ hitting the other . with a stick. Cun- ■ ningliam ran after the one with a stick ‘ and knocked him down and took the ' stick from him. A little later CunningJ ham again knocked down Graham, when f Milburn sain, “Leave him alone.” Cun- \ niiigham said, he, would not. and Milburn said, “You will.” Cunningham ; advanced and kicked Milburn, who* was j peeling a stick with a knife. Milburn ' at once struck Cunningham with the ; knife. Milburn went home, and Ctin- ! ningham commenced to pi yj and then fell. As a rule Milburn and Cunningham were very friendly; ' The jury, after; ten minutes’ consul- ' tation, returned a verdict of manslaughter, and added a rider that Mil--1 bum struck deceased without thinking 1 lie liad.a knife; da liis hand.
