SCIENCE AND LOYALTY.

What has the page of science now unrolled ? It has revealed the age of gold. Heaven s bounteous gift such wonders as it bore And made us what we never were before. It’s beat the winds that used to rule the sea And over the Ocean, shins now make their way. With' water, that’s converted* into steam Y; e face the storm and victory proclaim. It has made- new paths across the Ocean wide, , 'And framed new instruments our ships to guide; , By it the metals 'from the earth are won. And mixed the . and Iron in one. We have formed new kingdoms in these Southern seas, Where grew a wilderness in former days. Our herds and flocks now feed upon the lands, Which once were held by roving savage bands. By Science now we carry out life’s plan The greatest gift which God has given to man. By Science now we print His Holy Word, And send it forth, instead of fire and sword. And to ourselves it is a great release, Instead of cruel war, it gives us peace. Whatever now stands in our onward way We know our duty, it’s as clear as day. Wherever tyrants raise their monster head The sword of Liberty must strike them dead. ISo matter that our enemy is strong, It is decreed that Right shall conquer Wrong. Be loyal then, and to your country true, And with courage guard the grand Red. White and Blue. JOHN PLUMMER, Father of Wellington.
