STAG HUNT AT MOMOHAKI.
An exciting stag hunt which recently took place at Air William Brewer’s place near Momohaki, is described by a special contributor to the Wanganui ‘■Chronicle." The stag was a royal, albeit one of ills antlers had gone, probably in some combat. The animal had come among Mr Brewer’s herd of cattle a few weeks previously, and he bad proved his prowess by causing the death of a horse and -some trouble among the cattle. Upwards of 200 equestrians, including a delightful sprinkling of the fair sex, followed the merry sound of the horn, after a minting luncheon, at' the homestead. Air George Bavl.ey was master of the hunt. Of tlm run it is said that the stag kept for a time in a large paddock, where he was found as lie circled among the cattle. But afterwards he bounded over the fences, closely followed by the hounds, and went along the railway line, where, in trying a wire fence at the foot of an embankment, lie was brought down and quickly dispatched. A goodly number of the following were in at the death. By request, Air George Hutchison, as AI.FI.R-. for the district, added a few words to those spoken by the master m presenting the trophy to Air and Alls Brewer.
