THE TIME QUESTION.
TO the editor. Sir, —A.s there seems to be a lot of talk and confusion as to the difference of time between Wellington and Cuba, please allow me a few words on the subject. Though only a schoolboy, the thing seems so simple to me, and as easy as twice t-ro are four. It is 360 deg. round the earth ; divide 360 by 24, and I get lodeg to the hour. I find the meridian pissing through Cuba, and the one through Wellington. Between these two places there is 105 deg difference, and dividing this by lodeg, it gives me seven hours. New let us take post office time at noon, also knowing the world is travelling from west to east. Therefore, we will find it is 7 o'clock in the evening of the same day in Cuba. And 1 make the Philippines about 54deg. west of Wellington, or 3 hour 3 26min before our noon, or about 24 past 8 in the morning of tho same day. In the same manner a Londoner can say the Philippines are 12ldeg. east of their plac» at noon. That would make a difference between London and Philippines of about 8 hours sinin, or 5 minutes past 8 in the evening. —I am, &c, A. E. Carver. Wellington, May 4th.
