A Palmerston paper states that a holder of flax at Oroua Bridge was this week offered .£l7 per ton for the fibre. Consequent upon the rising market several mills will commence operations at Orona Bridge shortly. At a meeting of the Wellington Pigeon and Canary Association on Wednesday week, Mr F. Townsend (president) in the ohair, three new members were elected and five nominated for membership. At the show to be held on the Queen's Birthday, in a hall yet to be deoided on, the judging will take place in the morning, and the publio will be admitted during the afternoon and evening. The President promised two trophies for the committee to allot for the next show, and the secretary one, which he will himself allot, while two valuable trophies have been presented for a flying race from Wanganuifor working homers, the winner to be exhibited at the Bhow. Mr L. P. Christeson has been appointed judge of canaries, Mr J. P. Fit&Gerald of English and African <6wl3, Mr B. B. Bristow of magpies and Mr E. J. Fallu of saddlebacks. No jndge has yet been &J>? pointed for working homers..
